Dr. Dianxun Xiao is currently an Assistant Professor at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) (HKUST(GZ)), with a affiliated appointment at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). His research focuses on motor drives and power electronics technology. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Harbin Institute of Technology, and earned his Ph.D. from McMaster University in Canada, where he continued to work as a Postdoctoral Fellow after graduation. He now serves as the Undergraduate Program Coordinator of the Thrust of Sustainable Energy and Environment at HKUST(GZ). 

He has published 117 academic papers, among which 83 are CAS/JCR Q1 papers in IEEE journals. He held multiple academic positions: Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Transportation Electrification, Co-Chair of the Transportation Electrification Committee of IEEE Guangzhou Section, Committee Member of both the Electric Vehicle Professional Committee and the Energy Storage Equipment and Systems Professional Committee of the China Electrotechnical Society, as well as Track/Publication Chair for top international conferences including ECCE and ITEC. He has led funds from National Natural Science Foundation of China, IEEE Foundation, Guangdong provincial, automotive industry, etc.

Since 2023, he has been included in Stanford University’s World’s Top 2% Scientists list for three consecutive years. His honors include the Gold Award at the 51st International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva, the Pioneer Demonstration Case of Electrical Artificial Intelligence Science and Technology Innovation awarded by the China Electrotechnical Society, and the IEEE Foundation Myron Zucker Student-Faculty Grant (as the first recipient from China). Postgraduate students under his supervision have won the first Doctoral Excellence Research Award of the Function Hub and the Outstanding RBM Project Award at HKUST(GZ).
